On the Menu: Making Digital Content More Accessible

Friday, August 13, 2021 (12:00 PM - 1:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

Making your website and video content accessible to people of all abilities is more important than ever – and in some situations, it's required by law. But where do you start?

On August 13, join us alongside experts Rachel Healy and Alisa Herr as they break down the five most important actions you can take to provide equal access to your web content. In addition, they will serve up content on:

Why accessibility is good for business

How to make your website more accessible – no advanced coding knowledge required

What tools to use to easily increase video accessibility

In an effort to keep this event accessible, we will be offering a hybrid experience for participants. When checking out, be mindful to select between an "In-Person Ticket" and a "Zoom Ticket". For those attending in person, we will be providing a safe, sanitized and physically distanced experience. For those not located in NC or remaining cautious, we welcome you to join us over Zoom.

Game Plan

11:30am | Virtual | Doors to the waiting room open

11:30am | In-Person | Registration opens & lunch is available

12:00pm | Event begins

1:00pm | Go on back to work!

Our Session Leaders

Rachel Healy is co-founder of Open Eye Creative, a Certified B Corp that creates video content for businesses and organizations that are changing the world. She learned the power of multimedia storytelling while working as a journalist, and her interests led her to Central America in 2014, where she spent several months creating short films for NGOs that protect vulnerable populations in Nicaragua and Costa Rica. Previously, she was a copywriter at a creative agency, writing for clients such as Fidelity Investments, Barnes & Noble, and AOL. Her work has earned an Emmy (Midsouth chapter), a MarCom Gold Award, and several awards from the NC Press Association.

Alisa Herr is the founder and CEO of Unity Web Agency. She is passionate about lifting up those who use their talents as a force for good, and she established Unity Web Agency in 2016 to create sustainable and accessible websites for nonprofits and socially-responsible businesses. Alisa was previously the founding chief technology officer of a media nonprofit and an award-winning web developer at a design agency. She has a MS in Library Science from UNC-Chapel Hill and a BS in Psychology from Appalachian State University, where she graduated summa cum laude. Alisa lives on the Raleigh-Durham line with her husband, 2 sons, and cat. Most recently, Alisa was recognized by the North Carolina Business Council with a 2020 Leadership in Business Sustainability Award.

What's On The Menu?

At Frontier RTP, we are constantly growing, and hope you will come along for the ride! We developed On the Menu as a way of helping you and your business grow to the next level, whatever that next level may be.

Each month, we offer a lunchtime workshop on a special topic related to small businesses or startups. On the Menu will be taught by a diverse group of experts from around the Triangle (some of whom started their business here at Frontier RTP!) in a small group setting.

Our hope is that these workshops will not only be rich in content, but spark dialogue, start relationships, and make your lunch break meaningful. Did we mention there will be food? For those joining us in-person, there will be a free lunch available. If you are joining us virtually, we invite you to bring your lunch to the Zoom. No shame in eating with your camera on!
