What: Summer Careers Academy Launch Event

When: Tuesday, February 22, 2022 from 8:30-10am 

Where: Zoom (register for link) 

Why: To officially launch the Summer Careers Academy, introduce the program and partners, and give the community an opportunity to ask questions, provide feedback, and get involved. 


About the event: The event will feature remarks from leaders representing the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, Orange County Schools, Durham Technical Community College, the Home Builders Association of Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties, The Chamber For a Greater Chapel Hill-Carrboro, the Chapel Hill Town Council, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education, Orange County Schools Board of Education, ApprenticeshipNC, several employers and funders, and more!

About the academy: The Summer Careers Academy is a new registered youth apprenticeship program designed as an eight week career training program that will take place in the summer and connect local youth (ages 16-24) with new skills, paid work experiences, and compelling career pathways into in-demand fields. The inaugural program (Summer 2022) will focus on the skilled trades ("Building our Future"). The vision is to expand the Summer Careers Academy model to other industries (i.e., IT and health care) and other counties in subsequent years. Read the Oct 2021 announcement.
