Business Support Specialist
Purpose: To enable and support Chamber success, and help advance the Chamber’s mission, by managing and strengthening relationships with members and investors, providing exceptional customer service to guests, providing trustworthy and reliable support to Chamber management; increasing efficiency and expanding organizational capacity; working as a member of a team to achieve a high member participation, growth, and earning member loyalty and annual renewal.
Description: The Business Support Specialist will serve as the first point of contact for most Chamber members and community guests when they call or visit, greeting them hospitably with knowledgeable, professional, and helpful service and support. This employee will organize and coordinate the front office of the Chamber, handling phones, calendars, and Chamber meeting facilities. As needed, they will assist Chamber leadership in projects and tasks helping to meet project deadlines and deliver exceptional products and services on behalf of The Chamber.
Classification: At-will, non-exempt, employee reporting to and serving at the discretion of the President/CE, with day-to-day member relations activities managed by The Chamber’s Finance Manager.
Qualifications: A successful employee must have strong organizational skills, flexibility and strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as a commitment to the success of The Chamber, its member organizations and partners, and the community. The employee must have the ability to be both detail oriented and mission-motivated and to demonstrate the poise and professionalism to needed to represent The Chamber adhering to high standards of quality and excellence. Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and the ability to quickly learn and operate database software and other programs is required.
Work Week: The work week will be 30-35 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with rare requests for attendance at early morning and evening events. Most state and federal holidays are observed.
The Chamber: The Chamber for a Greater Chapel Hill-Carrboro is a non-partisan, not-for-profit, business leadership organization with a mission to serve and support the local business community and to build a resilient community where business thrives. The Chamber is comprised of 600+ members and a network of 2,000 business owners and managers, including large employers, small businesses, nonprofits, local educational institutions, local governments, and entrepreneurs. The Chamber has 35-member board of directors, staff of 10, and a budget of ~$1.4 million.
Salary & Benefits: Compensation is estimated at $17-$20 per hour with $1500 in additional bonus opportunities. Annualized, salary, bonuses, and benefits are valued between $38,000-$46,000.
