Chamber Congratulates Chapel Hill Town Council on the Naming of a New Town Manager and Welcomes Maurice Jones to Chapel Hill

The Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce applauds Chapel Hill Mayor and Town Council for their selection of Maurice Jones as the next Town Manager for the Town of Chapel Hill.

“We are delighted to welcome Maurice Jones to Chapel Hill and look forward to working with him to make our community an even better place to live, work, play, and raise a family,” said Reagan Greene Pruitt, Chair of the Board of Directors for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce and Vice President of Integrated Marketing & Community Engagement of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of NC.

Mr. Jones has served as the City Manager of Charlottesville, Virginia since 2010 and brings 17 years of executive leadership in local government in one of America’s great university communities. He spoke eloquently during the July 10, 2018 Town Council meeting, during which the Chapel Hill Town Council unanimously adopted a resolution appointing him as the new Town Manager for the Town of Chapel Hill.

Mr. Jones will begin his service to the Town of Chapel Hill in mid-August, temporarily overlapping with outgoing Town Manager Roger Stancil. He recently earned his MBA from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia and participants in his selection spoke positively of his support of economic development.

Chamber CEO Aaron Nelson added his support and welcome in saying, “Our Chamber Board of Directors, professional staff, and nearly 1,000 members look forward to welcoming Maurice Jones and his family to Chapel Hill and to work with him help make Chapel Hill a globally recognized community with the talent, infrastructure, and investment needed to drive the success of local employers and support world-class education, public amenities, and a thriving downtown.”
