Heads-up CBA Members: OWASA work, survey underway, new representatives, and #CarrboroLove

Message from Aury St. Germain to the Carrboro Business Alliance Members

February 10, 2022

Dear Carrboro Business Alliance (CBA) Members,

A few updates on behalf of your CBA Leadership Council and Committees:

  1. Heads-up downtown Carrboro businesses: OWASA will begin their 5-month East Main Street Sewer Rehabilitation Project tomorrow (Friday) evening. The project involves weekend work (Fridays at 8pm through Mondays at 6am) to replace 2,000 feet of sewer line on East Main between the Rosemary and Greensboro intersections. According to OWASA, businesses, parking lots, and sidewalks will remain open and accessible, and officers will flag car traffic through the road work and any road closures. Consider giving your customers and delivery drivers a heads-up. If you have any questions or concerns, contact Simon Lobdell, OWASA Utilities Engineer and project lead at smlobdell@owasa.org and 919-537-4247 or contact Blake Hodge, OWASA Communications Specialist at bhodge@owasa.org, 919-537-4236 (office), or 336-512-0472 (cell). Also, your 2022 CBA Chair, Josh Moorhead of Weaver Street Market, is tracking things closely and available to help you, too: josh.m@weaverstreetmarket.coop.
  2. Action request for all Carrboro employers: If you haven’t yet, please respond to The Chamber’s Economic Conditions Survey. This annual index gives us a year-over-year comparison on the health of our local employers. Your response matters and it is only 13 questions (takes 5 minutes)! Take the Survey. Results will be shared during the upcoming Economic Outlook Forum featuring Dr. Michael Walden on February 24.
  1. Show your love of Carrboro this Valentine’s Day. “For the Love of Carrboro” has become an annual tradition when everyone shows their #CarrboroLove (and tags @ForTheLoveOfCarrboro). Many local businesses dedicate a portion of profits on a day to a local charity and everyone is invited to share what they love most about Carrboro, including some of their favorite local businesses. Here’s the CBA’s announcement from last year and keep an eye out for this year’s in the next day or so (and make sure you tag us on any #CarrboroLove posts you push out!
  1. Get to know your 2022 CBA Leadership Council and Committee representatives, including Chair Josh Moorhead of Weaver Street Market and Vice Chair Maggie Funkhouser of the Carrboro Farmers’ Market. We continue to build the council and committees and welcome self and other nominations. Review the roster, read the announcement, and contact Katie Loovis for any questions and to raise your hand in service.
  1. Learn more about the recently re-elected and newly-elected Carrboro Mayor and Town Council Members. You can watch their introductory video clips and read more about their priorities on their campaign websites, all accessible through this recent CBA accountment.
  1. Follow the CBA on social media: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, youtube.

Regards,

Aury
