President's Update: New Local Guide to Safely Reopening and Operating in the Time of Covid

To: Full Chamber Membership
Date: May 8, 2020

To help support you and your business as you reopen, a collaboration of economic and community development partners have worked together over the last several weeks to create a local
Guide for Safely Reopening and Operating Your Business ( www.ReopeningHelp.com ).

The purpose of this resource is to provide businesses with the best known guidance to ensure consumer confidence, promote community health, and protect you and your employees as your reopen your business in the age of COVID-19.

These recommendations come from the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS), with additional guidance from local public and environmental health professionals. There are specific measures businesses of all types can take to aid in a safe, thoughtful reopening. The recommendations in each industry category support the overall goal of opening businesses in a way that protects employees and customers from exposure to COVID-19 and helps prevent the spread of the virus.

Key to success will be adequate supplies for employees and customers such as soap, disinfectant, hand sanitizer, paper towels, tissues, face masks, gloves, etc.  Over the last several weeks your Chamber has been working hard to source and vet PPE suppliers and hope to have a consistent business PPE supply solution identified soon.

Our
Guide to Reopening was drafted by the Chatham County Economic Development Corporation in partnership with the Carrboro Business Alliance, The Chamber for a Greater Chapel Hill-Carrboro, Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership, Chapel Hill Economic Development, Chatham Chamber of Commerce, Chatham County, Hillsborough/Orange County Chamber of Commerce, NC Works/Skills Development Center, Pittsboro-Siler City Convention & Visitors Bureau, The Small Business Technology Development Center, Town of Carrboro Economic Development, and Town of Hillsborough Economic Development.

The Guide is a living document and will be regularly updated (be sure to check back at
www.ReopeningHelp.com for the most recent version).  Your feedback, advice, and relevant/helpful links/additions are welcomed, so please send them along.  #hivemind

As always, thank you for your membership and partnership.

PS: Yesterday, I sent you an email ("Recovery Begins Now") with details about the end of the Orange County State at Home Order (today @5:00pm) and the beginning of North Carolina's Phase One of reopening.  In the email, I suggested Phase Two could begin as early at March 22 - that should have read 'May 22.'  I am grateful to the many of you who politely noted the error.

PPS: As a warm up to our #
LocalStimulUS campaign and its Mother’s Day Art Challenge (with $500 in prizes), I am happy to share Covid Haiku created by your fellow Chamber members in response to my late April challenge.
